Don't get me wrong? Sacrifices of Indian soldiers are worshiped. The pedestal is always ready. But somehow overtime their deaths have stopped being considered human deaths. Nobody finds innocence in their discipline or patriotism. There's a lot of noise, but at the end of the week, their deaths are a stat. Their names are a list. They can't get the status of Burhan Wani or Akhlaq in 7 lifetimes. They're nameless despite names.
Sentiments like 'National Pride' have become taboo subjectsYou won't see another country in this world where guarding self interest is frowned upon. Only in India, where democracy and free speech are the most potent tools in the hands of anti-nationals. Congress cultivated this culture in media and historical narrative - a culture where only the minority was allowed to exert masculinity, and the rest of the country will just prostrate in front of them, like Gandhi did over and over again.
What is the unsaid truth, the truth which lies at the bottom-most layer of this entire replaceable-dispensable status of Indian soldier. Why only their families cry the loudest, why the blood of so-called bhakts boil the most? What is that underlying truth that Pakistan knows intimately? It is, that these are HINDU SOLDIERS. This is the elephant in the room. Pakistanis or Kashmiris don't see the secular credentials of Indian army, they're killing the Kafirs, and they're bloody proud of it. Secular credentials are limited to newsrooms and parliament to tie the hands of Indian army, so the enemy can humiliate them again and again.
He's mourned for exact 3 days and then made a statisticDeath of an Indian soldier brings out the real circus of this country to forefront. But the death has to be entertaining. There has to be some mutilation involved, something new to add a twist to the good ol' list of casualties. You got a severed head, gouged out eyeballs, and you got something; like death through bullets, injuries through stone-pelters were not painful. You have an entertaining death and suddenly, parties like Congress, Left, JDU change their tunes ... for a day. Time to unite, they can stop the cover-fire for ISI and China for a day for a fellow Indian, they can do that much.
While media can milk the circus of soldier's death, while social media can trend hashtags and abuse each other full-stomach -- policy makers and those in opposition are sitting and waiting for the news item to die a natural death, which is 3 days.
Common masses can howl and howl, Pakistan is a complicated problem, and it can only be solved by the policy makers. Our army doesn't function the way it does in Pakistan. Come to think of it, nothing really works the way it works in Pakistan - from media, to public opinion, to politics, to army. That failed state has got one thing perfected, a united front against India. India is nowhere close to that kind of focus, except those who support Pak's agenda in India. Ironic.
Pak doesn't respect India's generosity or patience, it exploits it while mocking IndiaVajpayee's Pakistan policy was weak. He made the same fatal error, that Modi almost made - thinking Pak's hate can be managed through positive talks. It can't. You know why? Pakistan's culture doesn't see it as India's generosity - it sees it and knows it as India's weakness. So in a way, our neighbor probably knows us better than we do. And why won't they - Pakistan won the divorce, it got it's share - and left it's eggs in India's nest. Like the cookoo bird does to the crow. And India has gotten used to of eating the crow.
It's one thing to be an open democracy - and completely other thing to be open to abuse. We're at a point so far and so late - that whatever action we take now - however muscular and surgical - it won't be enough. Liberals wouldn't want you to know, but as far as Pakistan is concerned, we have always been at war. They'll never acknowledge this fact.
In Kashmir, with Naxals - we're not trying to avoid a war for larger good - we're normalizing a statewide rape of Indian landmass. We're used to of this abuse - and not from partition days, from way before - Hindus have rolled over for any slightly focused aggression. Be it Turks or British. And now Pakistan and and China. History keeps repeating in this part of the world.
Nobody respects who don't respect themselvesIn the end, democracy can't be a synonym of weakness. The "father" of India got it all backwards. Had it been so, no democracy would have survived in this world. Indian armed forces are the keeper of this freedom. And behold the irony, it's abuse has become a culture of Indian polity. Foreign policy doesn't work on principles. You may have a constitution and a supreme court within the safe confines of Indian borders - but as far as nations dealing with other nations is concerned, it's still the dog-eat-dog world of the old age. Soft imperialism is still imperialism. And nobody respects an entity which can't guard it's own interests.
