Prime Minister Modi in his address to the nation on Christmas day announced the availability of what the govt is terming a precaution dose as opposed to the term booster shot.
This precaution dose will be available from Jan 10 next year to all health and front line workers, and those over 60 with comorbidities can also take the benefit of added immunity with this extra dose after consulting their doctors.
In addition to this govt is also opening up covid vaccination to the children between the ages of 15 and 18. PM asserted this will be an important move in the fight against pandemic and normalizing teaching in schools.
PM also highlighted two new types of vaccines, a nasal vaccine and the world's first DNA vaccine, will be made available in India soon.
PM marked the success of India's covid vaccination program underlining the statistic that India has successfully vaccinated 61 percent of her adults with both the vaccine doses and 90 percent have taken the first dose.
PM urged the public that to remember that covid is not over rising omicron cases but not to panic and practice covid appropriate behavior of wearing masks and wash hands regularly.
Several opposition leaders like Rahul Gandhi and Mahua Moitra were seen taking credit for this announcement and welcomed the move.
